… Brief History of Post …
Post 2799 received its charter on March 25, 1933 with a membership of fourteen and was named Triangle, which represents the three neighboring towns of New Springfield, Petersburg, and New Middletown. These towns lie in a position that forms the points of a triangle.
Our first Commander was Ronald French (1933-1934) followed by Comrade Emmet Shaffer (1934-1935), and he being followed by Comrade Francis Wire who served the Post for two consecutive terms (1935-1937).
Post meetings were held in the old New Middletown Village Hall until December 1945 when the Veterans were returning home from World War II and signed up with the V. F. W. It was then decided to meet in the Mackabee Lodge Building on the square of New Springfield.
On November 9 1946, a loan was granted to purchase the Walter Rupert home across the street from the Mackabee Lodge. This building served as the Post Home from 1946 until 1957. During this period we incorporated and purchased 23 acres of ground from Mr. George Roberts. With volunteer help from our members, social members, cash and material donations in 1958 and 1959 we were able to construct our new home with the intentions to annex, such as has taken place within the last two years (1961-1963).
In 1963 membership consisted of 154 members, three of whom were Life Members. Seven of the original members were still active at the Post Meetings. At this time, the Post was proud sponsors of the VFW Robinhood Majorettes and Boy Scout Troop 83 out of New Springfield, Ohio.
Membership for 1984 was 226 total members
Membership for 2008 was 170 total members
